Shesther’s Gourmet is a Bay of Plenty-grown, family-run business, built on a simple belief; good food shouldn’t feel out of reach, and growing your own shouldn’t feel complicated.
We started with oyster mushrooms (pink and grey) and quickly realised something: people don’t just want produce they want confidence. Confidence to grow something at home, feed their family better, and learn the basics without needing a big budget or a farming background.
Today, Shesther’s Gourmet has grown into a wider range of homegrown goodness and practical learning — including mushroom growing kits and homeschooling educational kits, seasonal produce like strawberries and blueberries, fresh eggs, beautiful flowers, petal confetti, and of course our Shesther’s Apiaries honey (red and white clover).
We also host The Messed Up Gardener podcast— because we’re big believers in the “real life” version of growing: imperfect, practical, and still wildly rewarding.

Shesther’s Gourmet began as Shesther’s Mushrooms
a hands-on passion project that turned into a real business through persistence, trial-and-error, and a lot of learning-by-doing.
At first, it was all about one thing: oyster mushrooms. We loved how fast they grow, how nutritious they are, and how empowering it feels to produce food at home (even if you’ve only got a laundry shelf and a bit of curiosity).
But as time went on, something happened naturally: our growing world expanded. A few extra projects here, a few seasonal harvests there… and suddenly we weren’t just “the mushroom people.” We were building a whole little ecosystem of homegrown products from berries to eggs, flowers to petal confetti and the honey made perfect sense alongside it all.
So, we renamed and evolved into Shesther’s Gourmet because the heart of the business stayed the same, even as the range grew
